How to read your amortization
A business term loan works exactly like a mortgage: each payment covers interest first, principal second. In the early months you're mostly paying interest — which is why shortening the term saves far more than a slightly lower rate. A $150k loan at 11.5% over 60 months costs about $47k in interest. Cut the term to 36 months and interest drops to $28k, but the monthly payment jumps from $3.3k to $4.9k.
